On the evening of Thursday, June 12, 1941, the aldermen were driven round the north side to look at four pieces of ground, and the next night, at the regular council meeting, they meant to choose one.

Alderman Fred Kraft, chairman of the grounds committee, laid out what the city held. The Brieback property at the corner of Gillette and Kane was assessed at $5,600 and optioned at $5,000. The two lots at Avon and Sill were assessed at $4,550 and optioned at $5,600. To own the whole Logan high school block the city would need two more parcels, assessed at $4,000 and $4,400, optioned at $5,500 and $5,000. The fourth was a lot on George Street next to Sill, owned by Palmer Hanson, which the city had optioned as the site of an iron removal plant for the new north side well.

In August 1938 Kane and Gillette had been the dearer corner by three hundred dollars. By June 1941 it was the cheaper one by six hundred.

The council declined to act. The new aldermen, elected in April, had not yet seen the ground.
